The Chestnut Hut (2022)

A hut for chestnut observation in the garden of the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Cladded with leftover wood from construction yards and driftwood from the Schelde. I made a space that eliminates most of the man-made elements from our view and allows for closer observation of the intricacies found in trees. Throughout the six weeks the hut was in the garden, multiple events were organized there that relate to the sense of belonging. A workshop artifact making for a queer-feminist revolution was held by Kate. Baptiste held two performances in the hut focussing on ritual and initiation of the place, and Tom held a philosophical lecture on what it can mean to belong. I also slept in the hut.
