My screen print work is based around the idea of abstract anthropomorphism. Attribution of human characteristics to nonhuman entities has been found throughout history and is a common way of relating to the world around us. It can help us recognize ourselves in our environment and make us realize that we are as much a part of earth as earth is a part of us.
I focus on developing this way of looking by reducing the image to minimalistic compositions in black and white, layered with subtleties that reward the careful eye. I invite the viewer to contemplate the human characteristics that basic visual elements such as horizontality and verticality can express. Can a composition signify growth? Or equality? What does the horizon mean to us?
